The character Nøkken is based on a true old Norweigan folklore.
Legends say that the creature haunts lakes and rivers, transforming into mankind's desires to lure them to a watery grave.
The name Nøkken comes from the word Nøkk which means "the neck".
After being violently killed, Nicholas gave himself the name Nøkken to show how he is now defined by the bruised line across his neck.
Due to all his dying injuries coming from the violin that was given to him by his father, the only way to end Nøkken is to kill him with the violin.
He was raised by his father, Asmund Nilsen, after his mother passed away when he was four.
He didn't want to pursue the violin, however, was forcefully trained by Asmund in an abusive style.
Nicholas met Ingrid, a local farm girl, in which quickly developed a romantic attraction with.
By the time he was only twelve, Nicholas had performed in front of live audiences and had surpassed his father.
Nicholas is fully skilled in the violin; he can play it any position - standing, sitting, lying down - and can play it with both hands.
Asmund became very jealous with the skills he taught Nicholas and preferred to see him as a tool, rather than son.
Against his father's wishes, Nicholas demanded to live his own life and planned to elope with Ingrid and abandon the violin.
Nicholas was drugged and tortured to death by Asmund Nilsen after refusing to play for coin and fame.
