The character Nøkken is based on a true old Norweigan folklore.
Legends say that the creature haunts lakes and rivers, transforming into mankind's desires to lure them to a watery grave.
The name Nøkken comes from the word Nøkk which means "the neck".
After being violently killed, Nicholas gave himself the name Nøkken to show how he is now defined by the bruised line across his neck.
Due to all his dying injuries coming from the violin that was given to him by his father, the only way to end Nøkken is to kill him with the violin.

He was raised by his father, Asmund Nilsen, after his mother passed away when he was four.

He didn't want to pursue the violin, however, was forcefully trained by Asmund in an abusive style.
